About Verde Valley Pioneers

Our Mission

Our mission is to preserve the history, stories, and genealogy of the men and women who settled and helped build the communities of the Verde Valley. These communities include Camp Verde, Cottonwood, Jerome, Clarkdale, Sedona, Cornville, and the many ranches, homesteads, and settlements that shaped central Arizona.

Every biography we publish strengthens the connection between past and present—ensuring that the people who carved out life in this rugged valley are never forgotten.

Who We Are

We are a community‑based group of volunteers: descendants of pioneers, friends of descendants, local historians, and people who simply care about the heritage of the Verde Valley. Our volunteers research, write, organize, and maintain this archive so that anyone—near or far—can explore the stories of those who came before us. Learn more about our volunteers or discover how you can get involved.

Who Can Be Included

We welcome and encourage biography submissions for any person who lived in the Verde Valley, regardless of where they were ultimately buried. Many early settlers came from distant states or countries, lived in the Verde Valley during formative years, and later moved away. Their stories still belong here. If you submit a biography for someone buried outside the region, we will mail you a QR code, allowing you to place it at their gravesite—making you a volunteer historian helping expand the archive.

Read the full biography submission guidelines.

A Fully Volunteer‑Run Project

Even this website—its design, development, and ongoing maintenance—is created and managed entirely by volunteers. Every hour donated and every biography submitted helps preserve the heritage of the Verde Valley for future generations.

Keeping History Alive

The Verde Valley is rich with stories—stories of resilience, migration, hardship, and community. By contributing to this archive, you help ensure that these lives remain visible, discoverable, and honored.
